Mr. Schafhaus studied mechanical engineering at the University Aachen, Germany, and law at the University Bonn, Germany. During his legal clerkship he i.a. worked at the Regional Court and the Higher Court of Appeals at Düsseldorf, Germany, where he was educated by two later Presiding Judges at the German Federal Supreme Court. In 1991 he was admitted to bar as German attorney at law and started his own law office working in cooperation with the well known IP boutique Rospatt Osten Pross in Düsseldorf. In 1997 he joined the international law office KAU Rechtsanwälte/Attorneys (formerly Graham & James LLP Germany) in Düsseldorf as cooperation partner. In Summer 2013 he moved his office to Amsterdam, The Netherlands. In Summer 2020 he reopened his office in Germany.

Mr. Schafhaus consults and supports his clients, mainly small and medium-sized enterprises in all aspects of their national and international business and represents them in negotiations as well as in litigation. He is admitted to appear before all German district, regional and higher courts of appeal, the German Federal Supreme Court (in IP nullity proceedings), the European Courts, the German Patent and Trademark  Office, the European Patent Office and the European Office for Intellectual Property. He also represents his clients in national and international arbitration proceedings. As his clients are merchants, he focusses on finding the best possible commercial solution of a dispute for them.
